Extended height mode

Anyone know how to get into (and out of) the extended height mode (I am lead to believe this is higher than normal "off road" height)? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

You have to fool the underbody sensor into thinking that you are about to bottom out the car................ With L320 RRS you could do this from access mode but I have no idea how you can achieve this with L494/ RRS2 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Apparently you can't manually do this - only the car does it automatically if you are Censored Laughing

Next time try lowering the car and see if it would trick the system in to taking it higher up Whistle

Don’t, is the simple answer - the suspension components are designed to run normally at the two set heights - normal and offroad. Even in offroad height it is recommended that on cross slopes to lower to normal or if safe to access height to lower the Centre of Gravity of the car, even more important if you are offroad with a roof tent and all that extra weight as it could cause a roll over.
The car will very quickly scream at you if you also exceed the set speed (which is quite low) in offroad height. Super Extended height is purely to save your car’s underside from being damaged and is not meant to be use at anything other than lowest sensible offroad speed or the car will automatically lower. Remember too that with the Dynamic pack on your car that you also have the electronically dislocated rear antiroll bars and if traction is totally lost (you have two eDiffs too remember!) and a rear wheel can be lowered to find traction then the car will activate the auto dislocation up to an additional 10cm IIRC to try to get traction............. there are loads of hidden functions that happen automatically on Dynamics that don’t happen on non Dynamics (The L320 HSE with Dynamic pack, S/C’s and TDv8 could also do the clever dislocation of the. Rear A/R bars). If you attempt to make th car ride higher then you will loose the antiroll bar function and stress the suspension and braking components a lot. BTW you are aware that when lowering and raising the car you should NEVER put your foot on the footbrake or engage the EPB aren’t you? The wheels should be free to move a little as the car raises and lowers to avoid stressing the suspension. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim, this is just for off-road.

On my previous D4, I used to run +50mm, which made it easier to get over obstacles. --

Tim, where did you hear about the ARB behaviour? What you describe with the rear ARB sounds like the D2 ACE system. My understanding of the RRS system is that it does not do it that way. Both ARBs behave as if they are disconnected at low speed on the RRS dynamic response system but the ARB doesn't actively force the wheel down - the air suspension does that using the cross link valves and the ARB does not try to stop it as it would on road. The D3/4 do the same but the ARB is not disconnected because it's a traditional bar. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Top Gear. Mmmm...

The workshop manual for the L320 doesn't support the Top Gear view. Not the first or last time journos got the wrong end of the stick.

I remember Hammond's review of the L494 on Top Gear. He said stuff about the L320 that was wrong then too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

When I was on the Land Rover experience day in dunkeld they did it in a sport I was driving

If I remember he put it in access height while we were in a track and it sensed it was touching the ground and went into extreme height mode
It stayed in that until you went over 10 mph

Not sure how you do it otherwise but it’s pretty cool and you are are really high
