Air Con issues, advice please

Hello all, I have a 2006 RRS 4.2 s/c. 37.000 miles! I have owned it 4 years. I'm not sure if my air con was ever working as I didn't try to use it until last year. It clearly was not. The condenser was found to have sprung a leak. So was driven around for how long without gas? Could this damage the compressor? The condenser was replaced and system re-gassed. Seems to get cold and then go ambient. The other day I had the system checked again, Gas removed, Nitrogen leak test which was fine, re gassed with 600gms of gas, I'm not convinced that the car is getting cold enough. What temp should be coming out of the vents please? Should have asked but didnt, is there any warning light to show A/C is on? As far as I can see you turn the temp dials down to the lowest setting to turn on the A/C automatically or am I missing something stupid. Any advice welcome? And yes the mileage is correct, I bought it with 29,800 on and only do about 2000 miles a year as I'm disabled and don't need to go out that much! Thanks for reading folks.....

The ECO light needs to be off for the AC to work.

Other than that, setting it to LO or 17°C and running the engine should make chilled air come out the vents after a minute or so.

If there si no gas in the system the compressor is turned off to protect it

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply Andy, appreciate that! Will check re eco light. I think the chap that re-gassed it was getting a reading of 4.6 deg c at the vents, is that cold enough? I reckon it should feel icy? And if the compressor is off, do you have to do something to it manually or is it a computer hook up job do you know? I don't recall the engine note altering when he was testing it,especially on tick over I'm pretty sure in cars I have had before the note changed as the extra load was added as the compressor kicked in?

4C sounds fine.

These compressors don’t click in and out like old ones. They are variable.

No computer hook up required.

Thanks again Andy for your swift reply, will see how it goes for a bit, let it settle, and see if the temp remains constant. Cheers
