So I’m the past 2 months I have been through a disco 5 - disc sport - another disco 5 - and eventually JLR have swapped it for a brand new RRS HSE 3.0 tdv6.

There were so many issues with the discos that they just downed tools and swapped me out. Now what does that tell you🤷🏼‍♂️

Long storey short one of the issues was, they all had a resonating sound around the 1000 rpm range. Which was horrendous. All of them had it except the disco sport. Actually that was a loaner while they sorted their **** out.

Anyway, after 1500 miles in my new RRS guess what, the same vibration in the same place. (Sounds like it’s left hand middle engine bay coming through the glove box area) only it’s much quieter in the sport inside the cabin due to the sound deadening of course.

Anyone noticed this. It seems it can’t be a coincidence. Also, I really can’t take it back for this as none else notices it you need to become attuned to the car really
I’d love to find it. I’ve done the usual things. Loose pipes and cables, loose sound deadening

Any ideas?

I wonder if the exhaust or parts of are the same for all the vehicles. I had an annoying rasp which sounded like it emanated from under the passenger seat. Turned out to be in the Autobiography exhaust tip, where the parts were formed together there was a gap. I put a tag weld between the 2 parts and it’s fixed it.

It’s probably nothing like that but it shows how the location of sounds can be misleading. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

It’s always such a sense of achievement when you find and cure something like this it’s just finding the dam thing 😫

You could try changing the harmonics of the exhaust.

As a test if you have a piece of metal (relatively heavy) strap it firmly to the longest section of the exhaust and see if its enough to change the sympathetic vibration.

You might need try a few times and clamp it to other components. Remember JLR used to have very large weight slung behind the rear wheels because of body panel resonance. You could try taking out the front carpets and see if its worse.

Sympathetic vibrations are a pain with modern unit construction bodies.

The '"C" pillars on the first generation Dicos used to setup strange aerodynamic flows which cause strange sensation at motorway speeds (early Ford Sierra's had same issue).

Still getting nowhere with finding this droning resonating 😫

You might want to have the engine & transmission mounts looked at. Joe
