Hello all, hope im posting on the right place, am looking to get a RRS HSE ,either a 4.2SC or 4.4? Prob a 2005/6. Any advice/ views greatly appreciated. Also guidance if I've posted in wrong place ( not like other RR forum.net!!!)

Hi Simon, I owned a 2005 S/C 4.2 (currently own a Jag XKR X100 4.2S/C same engine) lovely car! The RRS S/C put a smile on my face every time I used it, lovely to drive with lots of power! Down side was fuel costs it was giving me about 12mpg no real issues that I remember but I only owned it for about a year or so before I ran out of savings... ! As with any Land Rover the golden rule buy sensibly ie with full history don't touch one that hasn't been serviced regularly (every year I think it's 12,000 miles or every year whichever come first but check that) Serviced by either main dealer or independent specialist they are very, very expensive to put right if they haven't been maintained properly. You should find one with good mileage as most owners of the S/C vehicles do less miles than the diesel models. Budget for service costs every year, find yourself a decent LR specialist and be clear on the servicing costs before you buy. I know it sounds silly but I bet I'm not the only one on here that checks to see if all four tyres are the same all round when buying. That to me says a lot about the last owner. If the tyres are all different makes etc then it's not been looked after and you don't know what else hasn't been maintained well? The S/C are usually well spec'd test every button make sure it all works and take your time don't be hurried around the car. Check the suspension goes up and down ok there are three height settings: access height-low down, normal- ride height and extended height Check the low and high range gearbox settings it should drop in and out at a press of the button. Check the tyres outside wall and inside wall for bulgees. Check the inside edges on the tyres the nearside tyres inside edge can wear quicker due to the camber on the road these are heavy vehicles and will scrub out tyres quite quickly if not running true. I always get a four wheel alignment done soon as I buy one just to make sure. My current XKR (same engine as the RRS) on buying it I had the oil changed on the super charger, gearbox and diff made it drive like a new car it might be worth you doing the same as the s/c and gearbox oil are not a service item as far as I know? Hi Buster007, thank you for your reply , I shall definately look at all those points, the one I hope to look at has done 72k 2 owners and says fsh, it's the 4.4 one on a 06 plate . Have heard all the stories regards cost of repair etc so hope i do find a good one .the fuel usage shouldn't be a worry as not in constant use ( my 330i bmw not much better 😆) And when i do find one I shall definately post some pics .
