Where is Land Rover/Range Rover?

This week’s weekly motoring magazines are awash with new BEV SUV drives and reports - Audi E-Trons , BMW 8 Series electric SUV, VW Tiguan BEV, a VW T-Roc electric SUV, a new Hyundai BEV SUV, several unheard of Chinese makers new BEV SUVs and according to Autocar a new Kia e-Niro SUV that betters Tesla at its own game with a real world range in excess of 300 miles ( so the official one is around 350/370 on the new testing cycle) and where is Land Rover (or even Jaguar) in all these mentions? Well Land Rover is mentioned in the “why you shouldn’t buy a used L322 FFRR” in one magazine and the outgoing Evoque is tested in the “why you wouldn’t want to buy a Used current generation car” in another .......... two totally negative reports supposedly based on owners reports. No mention of any plans for BEV models coming even in the far distant future, not even a mention of the mild hybrid Evoque coming in 2019. So 1000’s more customers lost to Land Rover just because they are so out of touch with what the market wants.

The New Kia Model looks quite similar to the best selling Kia Sorrento SUV but will be 4WD with compact high efficiency batteries and wait for it ....... £31,000 OTR. Doubtless it will come with a full load of gadgets, a 7 year warranty and free servicing and for sure the QC people in Korea will ensure that it arrives at your house in 100% flawless condition and give you 100’s of thousands of miles of faultfree, slightly boring driving. Time for JLR to wake up if they don’t want to loose any more private buyers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I have been carrying out a fair amount of research over the last week or so regarding replacing my RRS next year. Originally I was considering a 2012 Full Fat Westminster to let LR get their act together and also to allow electric vehicle research to move on. However I would then be swapping my L494 which has been a good car for a 6 year old one that appears to have its own unique unreliability traits. In addition a bolt on warranty will cost an eye watering £1400 per year!

The recent release of the new BMW X5 and new Mercedes GLE has really caught my eye. Not seen either in the flesh yet but the reviews are very positive and they are both pleasing on the eye in photos. In 2019 both will be available in PHEV form and capable of 50+ miles. Both are substantially cheaper than a L494 and there do not appear to be as many disgruntled owners on websites covering the brands when compared to LR.

I sadly think that I am approaching the end of RRS ownership..........☹️

Jim

The rebuilt electric Aston DB2 that they show in Autocar would be nicer though........ if it were a little less expensive. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Both Autocar And Auto Express have a first drive short test of it - looks duller than ditchwater and Audi has been having build quality and mechanical issues recently........ just like JLR. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Doug's review of the Jag I-Pace is out, and he rates it above the Tesla, which bodes well.

Also against the IPace is the rear headroom and the worse than an Evoque rear visibility. Very few of the test videos on YouTube show these two issues. IPace’s boot is vast but it is not for high loads due to the rake of the rear window. I test drove one recently and the performance makes an SVR feel slow and very noisy.........
This video shows the ipaces roof line problem  2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
