Engine

Hi I have a 2006 2.7 and been advised by garage the crankshaft has gone and I need a new engine. Unsure on the best route to go. Been quotes £3406 plus vat to have engine rebuild and used are coming back around 3k plus fitting.

What would you, sell car as a non runner or repair unsure best route to go.

If you like the car and want to keep it, get an engine from LandRover for ~£5000 + fitting.
This comes with a decent and long warranty.

You can't really trust recon engines from other sources

New engine, enjoy the vehicle. Cost to change will be more than cost to repair so why change? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If it helps, I know a place that did my disco 3 for €5500 including everything. They even came to my house to collect the car.

They did a really good job.

They have put in a "used" engine with 12 month warranty.

I have very happy!! D3 drives beautifully now!!

The car is practically worthless with a blown engine

Either take a hit and have the engine replaced with a decent warranty, or take the hit and sell as is...

Sorry Disco_Mekey, but I don't think that we should accept that the RRS with a dead engine is almost worthless.

If you split it for parts, you can get a very good price.

Also... a car can be worth more to an owner than it's "list" price.

When I replaced the engine in my D3, I paid €3200 for the car, and €5500 for the replacement engine. This means €8700 in total.

I could not have bought a D3 in the condition of this car for this price!!

I agree, my D3 has had over £17k spent on it over the last 5 years.

Doesn't matter, its still only worth 5k...

When I said worthless, it was meant in relative terms. Its still worth £2-3k

You can strip it for parts, if you have the time/patience/space to do it
