Is there any ride/ comfort advantages to wheel size? My car currently has 22’s and I wonder if it might have a better feel to it if they weren’t so big. I also prefer some of the 21 inch styles so may change anyway.

I have 20 inch for one reason, the RRS is a 4WD and I want to go bush. If you have purchased for any other reason then it is all about other functions and looks I think. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW. |

I have 20 inch on mine shod with 40 profile tyres. Bearing in mind the shambles the councils have left the road network in, with potholes everywhere, I find the ride a bit too harsh. Was toying with the idea of trying some 19 inch winter wheels at some point but for various reasons have not yet got around to trying that. I am also considering changing the profile on my next set of tyres from 40 to 45 which may help slightly. This all based on comments from other contributors to this forum and not from my own experience.

Its not all about the size of the wheel,,its the profile of the tyre,i was running 285/35r22's on my RRS1 & the ride was fairly hard,as soon as I got my14 RRS I kept the 22" wheels but went to 295/40r22 tyres & it improved the ride.If you go for 22's on a RRS1 i suggest you go for 275/40r22,,ive just fitted my old RRS2 alloys to a friends RRS1 with that size & he says its a better ride than his 275/40r20's that he had on it before. If you are considering 21's then you need 275/45r21.

Thanks Andy, what would you recommend for a 20" rim? --

275/45r20 will make the ride better & they also fill the arches better.

Hmm, but that is a smaller sidewall, so a bit worse for offroading? --

Naks, if you can fit them, go with 19 inch wheels for off roading. That will give you a deeper sidewall which is better away from tarmac. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Unfortunately the SCV8 can't take 19" rims, otherwise I would aim for these --

I’m afraid you can’t really go any higher than 45’s if you fit 20’s,,which RRS have you a 320 or 494,,if it’s 320 then you can fit 19’s but only a certain LR wheel,,I remember a member on here bought some 19’s that were original LR but didn’t fit so you’ll have to research which ones fit,,then you can go 255/55r19’s or probably 60 profile. I'm busy shopping for an L494, and getting the dealer to fit 20" as part of the deal. --

If you are getting a l494 then I’m sure you will be able to fit 275/50r20 as they are near enough same rolling radius as the 275/45r21’s that they fit those standard to the 494

I went for 20” on my AB. The ride is great, it goes round corners great and there is zero chance of kerbing the rims. I also preferred the look of the 20” and I think the bigger wheels look too ornate. |
