Engine in but still problem

Morning all
Rebuilt engine back in my 2.7 sport
But lots of warning lights h d c transmission
Hand brake etc
Started engine for first time
Fired into life perfect then all faults
Showing standing in front of car and saw just a small
Whisper of smoke coming from back of engine
Top of bulkhead Where wireing harness meet and drop down to
Gearbox knowing my luck it will be gearbox harness
Took battrey back off just in case
My question is can I remove gearbox harness
Without takeing gearbox out
Thank you for any help or advise in advance

Go on eBay and buy a copy of the workshop manual for a tenner. A lot better than posting and waiting for answers on here. Thumbs Up

There aren't many mechanics on here so you could wait a while for an answer. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

First I am not a mechanic and prefer to pay other more competent people to look after my cars but through long term membership of the forum and having read posts of electronic problems your problem might be because you might have disconnected all the electronics from the engine and the ECU no longer recognises the engine and might need to be reconnected to a diagnostic machine to reset everything. I’m sure that somebody like Mikey/Bodsy will be along and tell me I am talking nonsense but i’m Pretty certain that when major components of modern Land Rover products are disconnected from their ECU’s there can be problems when you reconnect them with them not recognising each other. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

can't see why you wouldn't be able to remove the harness.

check everything is plugged in behind the battery ( there are 2 large flying connectors)
check where the smoke same from to see if short to metal work.
you could glance over the large fuses by the battery

it could be just oil burning off ?

The workshop manual is 5000+ pages. The Haynes manual can't compete...

If you're as hands-on as you obviously are, for a tenner it's a no-brainer, surely. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
