Hi, so on Saturday I'm looking to buy a TDV8, it's 9 years old so I don't expect it to be perfect but any information on what to look for so that a good deal does not become a money pit. I'm going to look at a candidate on Saturday, the vehicle has 64,000 two previous owners, FSH. This year the vehicle has only done 300 miles so it's been sat around a lot. I know about steering wheel vibrations and some air suspension checks but are there any other checks?

If it's been sat around then the Electric Park Brake could become an issue. Others on here have found this, and mine failed within weeks of buying it having sat on the forecourt for a few months and only covering 500 miles the previous year. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Good to know, I heard the electronic parking break is about a 2K repair, is that even remotely accurate? Sounds extortionate!

£2k is rather exaggerated. even at main dealer rates...

I have only ever replaced 4 complete modules in the last 8 years, and that has been for electrical issues. Its not as problematic as everyone makes out

Turbo's can be a problem too

So can fuel consumption.  John

Not to sure about that one theirs loads of other parts to worry about that are not under the mot like air-con,electrics etc

Service history is crucial, buy a bad one and it will cost a fortune. Buy a good one and it will be great.

I bought a 2008 TDV8 20 months ago. Without a reasonable warranty I would be seriously out of pocket. You would not expect the items I've had repaired to go at just 60 thousand miles but, from memory, (as I'm on hols at the moment) front diff, 2 wheel bearings, both front lower wishbones, EPB seized. So far I've had some £1600 paid for by my warranty company at a cost of £925 and I still have 20 months of warranty to run.
So either get a really good warranty or put lots of dosh aside for possible issues. Robin

When I bought the car I was given the "Ultimate" option from The Autogroup (www.theautogroup.co.uk). I'd never heard of them before but they seem to have looked me quite well. Probably put the kiss of death on it now!

One thing they don't cover, and you may not even think to check it on when you buy, is the headlamps. If its fitted with the AFS (all singing all dancing) headlights, and they are not working properly, then a brand new replacement headlight is just short of £1000 (second hand about a third of that). Yes, that's EACH! There are plenty of threads on here (including mine) about the issues with them. Seems its an intermittent fault, so be careful to check as much as possible. Robin
