Hi guys
I seem to have developed a slight steering wheel wobble after fitting a new front o/s wheel bearing .
I've double checked that all torque settings are correct , and now I'm clueless as to what is causing this
My question is .... could a warped brake disc be a culprit ?? although front and back along with new brake pads ,were replaced less than 12 months ago ?
Would I need a 4 wheel alignment after changing the wheel bearing ?
Is there anything else I may of overlooked ? Any help will be greatly appreciated, as this is driving me mad

Shouldn't need an alignement after changing the bearing, Have you knocked a wheel weight off by accident whe removing/replacing the wheel ?

Any heavy braking where the wheel locks and the ABS doesn't cut in can cause the disk to deform.

Have you re-mounted the calliper incorrectly/not square ?

I have double checked everything I can think of regarding re-assembly , and all seems fine ,
I do have 22" wheels which weigh a ton , and although I use the wheel fitting guide's I may have lost a weight when re-mounting them I'll have them re balanced and see .
As for breaking , I don't recall any heavy breaking causing the wheels to lock up , I've only covered around 3 thousand miles
in the 18 months I've owned the car Its just I've read about warped discs and thought this might be a cause , is there any way to check this , Or do I need a specialist ?

I had steering wheel wobble when breaking from higher speeds. Quite embarrassing when you have passengers wondering why your jiggling up and down in the driver's seat.
Mine turned out to be warped discs on the front. Living in the country I don't have many garages around so the place that did the work charged me close to £400 for the pleasure. 2007 L320 3.6 TDV8 HSE Java Black

Unfortunately for me , mine wobbles slightly under normal driving with no breaking involved ?
It's driving me mad , On the rare occasions I drive it

I forgot to mention, it could also be that your wheel is buckled.

A local garage could check the disks for run out, Or you could pick one of these up and test it yourself:

With the shake happening when driving though my money is on balancing or a buckle.

1. did you check that the mounting surfaces of the disc and the bearing were completely clean and smooth?
2. did you torque the wheels in the right cross pathern sequence and with the right torque (140 nm)?

Both- if ignored- could lead the disc and wheel to wobble RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux

Thank you also for your suggestions.... I did make sure the surfaces were clean , when I de-assembled everything to check
I had no idea there was a certain sequence to tightening the wheel nuts
Could you please let me know this sequence so I can eliminate it , if that is the problem
Car is booked in tomorrow for balancing, so if that doesn't work , I'll investigate the other suggestions

Its not a Range Rover sequence its just basically tighten each nut in turn diagonally across from each other, plus I would question the 140nm, I thought it was 96

Install the wheel and tire.
Tighten the wheel nuts in the sequence
shown:
1. 1. Stage 1: 4 Nm
2. 2. Stage 2: 70 Nm
3. 3. Stage 3: 140 N

This is according to the official factory service manual (at 96 your yr wheels will come off) RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux

I have had the same in the past with a different car. Turned out on that occasion the new hub itself was buckled causing the wobble.

UPDATE ....
Had the wheels balanced today , and the steering wheel wobble is still there
Also had the front wheels checked to see if there was one warped , they are fine ?
The guy at the garage also checked the wheel nuts , all were at the correct tolerance of 140 N/M .
I am now at a loss , the wobble is very slight but wasn't there before the bearing change , I could live with it but it's driving me mad

The Indy did suggest that the new bearing could be at fault , as he has experienced this before
So this weekend I'll take it apart again for the fourth time , and return it for a new one

IAWA 4x4 in Wellingborough. A little journey, perhaps, but worth it if it saves you a decent amount.
