Delay at SVO

Hi
Just thought I would throw this out there for any comments.

My SVR was ordered in February and the build was commenced on 14th April. I was subsequently informed that my car was complete and awaiting Quality Control. The agreed handover was agreed for 22nd May from the factory and confirmed, by JLR
I received a phone call this Wednesday evening to say, that there was a delay. No reason, explanation or confirmation of a new date.
My dealer has no information apart from being advised that they suffering huge back logs !!!
It all sounds a little strange since it is supposed to be ready for handover Monday !

Has anyone experienced this at the 11th hour ??

Cheers RRS SVR 2018

When I ordered mine I was given an 8 Month delivery date from the time of order Exclamation Exclamation

But, it did arrive quicker and only took 6 Months Whistle Whistle

That's what they told me when I ordered it, so I believed them. They are as much in the dark as I am.
Just seemed odd hat it is delayed when it is supposed to have been finished awaiting handover.
I would not mind if they kept me informed and gave me a reason and a new date for handover.
But nothing, is just very frustrating Confused RRS SVR 2018

Not the first time I have seen unexplained delays like this.

Often it is caused by minor component shortages - if there is a batch mislaid or faulty, the manufacturers really struggle to catch up, a little known consequence of "lean" manufacturing and the vicious cost pressure applied by car marques to their suppliers - they simply cannot afford to have any spare capacity in their systems.

Not unknown for an RTA with a lineside delivery vehicle to cause problems either. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

It is also one reason why there are sports grounds to this day at Solihull - they double up as a helicopter landing area when the traffic on the motorways gets snarled up and deliveries stop - they airlift in the parts to keep the factory going. Even on my ship we have contracts with all the car makers in the UK and Europe - we have to land containers in a fixed time window after a 6 week trip from the other side of the world............... to within 30 minutes. Missing the tide into Southampton or Felixstowe would cost the shipping line millions in compensation hence why we cruise along at 15 knots but have reserve speed to come up to 28knots if the weather turns nasty or we get delayed at another port - it is cheaper to burn the extra fuel (even doubling consumption to 300-400 TONNES a day) rather than compensate the car makers..... In April the Renault / Dacia factory in Tangiers was shut down because the big ships could not berth at Port Tangiers Med due to hurricane force winds for 3 days, that didn't cost the shipping lines but it will have made a few Lloyds Names a little less wealthy... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The just-in-time logistics and delivery of parts to the line is handled by DHL, who have built a hhhuuge warehouse a few miles from the factory. Suppliers don't have to use them and can sort delivery to the line themselves. However, if the line has to stop because parts are not there the supplier gets charged by the minute. And when a car comes off the line every minute you can imagine what the cost-per-minute charge is!

So have you gone for extra work at SVO itself as Phil did, or is this a line built order?

I did have extra work done at SVO. It was passed to SVO on 4th May and I was told that the 22nd was still on. Then I got informed a week later that it was receiving its final "make up" and check ready for handover.

What I can't get my head around is the fact that, they told me last Monday that the car was finished and ready for the proposed handover date. We also agreed travel arrangements to Solihull..

I am just baffled at the conflicting stories regarding the delay. Either the car is ready or not....

I would just like a straight honest answer.. RRS SVR 2018

I must admit, I hadn't thought of that. I too am am having 22" wheels. I just thought that as it was on the spec sheet they would have accounted for it before production. RRS SVR 2018

There are different rear wheel arches if you have the factory fitted OEM 22" wheels - to meet legal requirements, so maybe LR has run out of the special little winglets................ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thank you so much for this information.
I have had little or no communication regarding the reason why.
Also I could not understand why at such a late stage and also being advised that I could pick it up tomorrow, that they suddenly said it had been delayed... RRS SVR 2018

Just thought I would give you an update..
I have been told that there is a massive backlog of unfinished cars at the factory and a further backlog of cars waiting at SVO? As for new handover date, they cannot give me one at all now
Seems very odd for such a large company!

Has anyone else heard of this

If that is the case then they must be haemorrhaging money ??? RRS SVR 2018
