Extended warranty

Although my 3 month old vehicle has been trouble free so far, given the problems many have had I certainly wouldn't want to keep one without a manufacturer's warranty in place.

Does anybody know how much an extended warranty typically costs from LR, and is it as good as the original warranty? MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

And it is an aftermarket warranty, basically an insurance product, just like Warranty Direct. So it DOES have exclusions, which the OE warranty does not (apart from consumables that is).

And the dealers make a huge markup on it...............so draw your own conclusions. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

It costs the same whether you buy it through the dealer or direct from LR warranty company so there should be no markup.

The full extended warranty covers almost everything. If you pay for the additional LRAssist then you get home and roadside assistance which provides a loan car too. It's a good product. Indeed I fou d the extended warranty with Assist to be the most reliable part of LR ownership... Whistle

As said though, it is an insurance policy and so, like all insurance, you have to balance the cost against the risk of needing to claim. In my four years with a LR Extended warranty it paid out more than it cost. Sadly, they won't cover me now I'm over 100k miles. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The cost of the warranties go up as the car gets older; it is cheaper to put one on a car that is 360 days old than it is on one at 370 days old (plus there will also be the pre-warranty check required which is £100-£200)!

A lot of the time it comes down to how good your local dealer is; I have had a number of Land Rovers with a number of issues (no great surprise!) and everytime work has been required under extended warranty it has been carried out.

As far as I am concerned they are worth their weight in gold and the LR product is better than any other aftermarket one.

One thing to remember about the extended warranty is that you can use it at non-LR garages. That way you can avoid the dealer network and use a decent indie. Obviously the manufacturer's warranty requires a visit to a LR dealership. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I previously had an XC90 for which I paid £650 for a full manufacturers 3 year extended warranty bought when the car was 4 years old with about 40k on the clock. That price was not per annum but for the whole 3 years. I never claimed on it!! Why cannot Land Rover build a car that has that same inherent build quality and show the confidence in their product by a sensible extended warranty cost?

At this rate I will be trading the RRS for a XC90

Why can't any of the European manufacturers offer the 5-7 year warranties that the Japanese and Koreans offer?!

BigBen....I came from a 2004 XC90 back to LR.

Having test driven the new XC90 I am now laying awake in bed wondering if I made the correct decision ordering a new L494..... Rolling Eyes

Back to the topic, Warranty Wise look good on paper and would appear to cover more than Warranty Direct. Anyone have any experience of them?

Jim

Don't worry Jim, those XC90s look very nice in the rear view mirror of a L494. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I'm considering these 2. Each has different cover and exclusions, but pricing similar. Warranty Direct don't cover suspension, which I find worrying.

Anybody have experience of dealing with either of them? Merc C220 estate Sport AMG
