2.7 Cam Belt Change Interval - 7 Year Time Frame

My 2.7TDV6 is almost exactly 10 years old and has covered 128,000km. The advice on this forum was to change the belts at 168,000km or 7 years which is the earliest. Due to the relatively low km I made a decision to change my belts at 10 years or 168,000km whichever was the latest.

I have just got my car back after the belts, oil pump, aux belt and the upper plastic coolant housing were all replaced.

I maintain my service records on the genuine LR Service record sheet (Rest of the World) - not sure how I load PDFs on here) which lists the intervals etc for the various services. I noticed that on that sheet that it lists the belt service as being 168,000km with nothing about a time interval of 7 years. In fact on page 2 it indicates that the O, A, B services take place at the distance or time whatever is the earliest BUT where a distance appears in the little service box this is a set distance and the time frame does not apply - so according to the genuine LR service sheet for my car, the service interval is 168,000km with no time frame applying. Now other items such as the auto transmission fluid have 240km in the box but in the description it says or 10 years whichever is the earliest - nothing like that for the cam belt.

So - where does this requirement for a 7 year change of belts come from - what is the source document?

Oh - cam belt was like new, the fuel pump belt was chaffed a little in the outside - oil pump was fine. I still do not know why these oil pump housings fail - they last OK from the factory, until the cam belt change where they then fail - the only reason I can see for the the cam belt tensioner/idler mount in the oil pump to fail is the mechanic overtightening the mounting bolt cause a a crack or something similar. No one has been able to explain why they fail. My mechanic knows of the issue - he does not normally change the oil pump and has not had any failures but he has worked on cars where they have failed so maybe it is ham fisted mechs that are causing the issue.

But to the point of this post - what is the source document for the 7 year change of belts as it is not in my genuine LR service schedule.

Thanks

Thanks - you have reinforced my point - where is the reference to 7 years (like the coolant above for 10 years) and on the right of the page where it has the auto fluid change at 240,000km and in the description it says or 10 Years in bold letters. I would have expected the same for the belts with a bold note saying 7 years.

If you go to page 2 of the document you listed it should basically say (well mine does) where a distance appears in the little service box this is a set distance and the time frame does not apply for that type of service does not apply.

Cheers

Cambelts are due at 105k miles, which is part of the 7 year service Confused

Like it says in the box at No 24. 105k miles

Service required should be at the time or distance stated, whichever occur first

Thumbs Up
