RRS Bonnet not closing properly?

My 2005 RRS will not allow me to secure the bonnet after I topped up the washer water. I've tried everything including how it says in handbook (gently pressing it down with 2 hands) to trying to slam it down from a height, both without success. Any ideas anyone??

Re Bonnet not closing

Hi Sgthomer99

I have had this with mine a few times,Sometimes one catch and not the other will lock. If this is the same problem with yourself. I just soaked the catch in the landing panel with WD40 and worked the release cable from inside the car a few times and then they worked as they should.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up

Unsure the release handle inside has returned. Push it in.

Then give the bonnet a slam Laughing

I have this all of the time on my L494 - the lever in the footwell does not return properly, causing the catch under the bonnet to not work. Solution has been to push the lever back and then close the bonnet. #irritating.

Hi

I had the same problem recently on a 300 mile trip in gales. Not one of my favourite experiences waiting for the bonnet to fly up, particularly as the previous journey had been spent with the well known suspension dropping problem!

I needed to use a screwdriver to shift the mechanism where the hook clips under the bonnet. WD40 to release it but remember to use grease to coat it once free. WD40 will release it but won't last as a lubricant (sorry if you already knew that)

The above also solved the problem of the lever not returning to place on mine.

Good luck

Be careful with the WD-40...

Thanks for all the advice folks, noted....Update to last....travelling home from work today at 65mph in outside Lane of dual carriageway the bonnet decided to unlock, luckily the safety catch held and prevented a nasty accident, pulled into lay bay and shut it again. A bit wary now!
