Good info but I'm confused why various sites say you can get 40-50hp from a 10% pulley but you say it goes asthmatic and does nothing

I've been on various forums long enough to ask where this info came from?

Sorry, I maybe wasn't very clear, you will gain power but it will primarily be lower down the rpm range.

The stock pulley means that the eatons charger develops peak power at roughly the same time as the engine. Another reason is so that the charger lasts more than a couple of months. I'm not saying that your charger will fail if you put a smaller pulley on it but the chances are greatly increased.
Without a re-map you're not going to really get the most from the modification.
With the smaller pulley the charger is spining faster, high airflow from the twin screw system generates a lot of heat so the faster it spins the more you've got to cool the air. So, you will gain power but you won't be able to sustain that power as you will soon overload the intercoolers and the engine will enter limp mode.
Very few people will ever notice this though, as they don't really push the car for a sustained period. Take it on the Autobahn and hold it at 6k rpm for awhile or tow something up a decent sized hill and then you will see what I mean.
