The engine is chain driven.

Glad to hear that. Are chains likely to last the life of the engine?

Yeah I think they sorted out any chain and tensioner problems by 2005.

Other than mechanicals get them to check that the lock for the upper section of the tailgate isn't corroded - it is common for water to get in either as condensation between the plastic skins or through a perished rubber cover for the press button - it causes corrosion on the mechanism and it won't release. Check that the transfer mecjhanism between high range and low range gearboxes is working - recommendation from LR is to change to Low Range and back monthly to exercise the mechanism, 99% of owners don't do it and then find that when they want to use the low range gear box the mechanism is seized up. It is not a complex or expensive thing to fix but worth checking - you can try it yourself by selecting N on the gear selector and pressing the Hi/Lo range button, the change over should be quick and almost silent, you will get a warming light on the dash when it has completed the change over, return to High range should be just as quick and smooth and the indicator light should go out on completion. I would suggest that even if you never intend to go off reading you should perform this simple action monthly. As I use my RRS off-road the low range gets operated most months anyway but if I haven't used it off-road in the previous month it only takes 2 minutes to operate it..

I checked the low range recently and all seemed well but haven't looked into the recalls; didn't realise there would be any so I'll look into it. |
