Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on with this " Black Friday" advertising everywhere at the moment???

It's really gripping my . I always believed Black Friday was classed as the last Friday Work/Shopping day before Christmas Day and now it's everywhere and it's still November for gods sake!!!!!!!!

Maybe being a bit touchy but it's really winding me up

It's a day for company's to sell off old stock with a discount after hiking up the prices

Never heard the above definition of Black Friday before I always believed it was a US only thing ... day after Thanksgiving day (last Thursday of November). So tomorrow is Black Friday when US retailers start their sales/promotions. Shops outside the US also started doing that a few years ago seeing that many people were ordering stuff from America (just in time for Christmas) at massive discounts that worked out cheaper even after paying international P&P. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Just something I've taken off the internet..... as well as last Friday Work/Shopping Day it's also known for Partying.

This Black Friday which I'm moaning about has come from the U.S. So another excuse for shops to nail people even more in the UK. There is just no need for it

Its when a bunch of lowlifes go fight over a £200 TV that's been marked up to £400 for the last month then reduced back to £200.

Black friday is the first friday after Thanks giving, a sale thing thats been around a while.

I think you will find Asda/ Wallmart 'imported' it over this side of the pond.

I don't understand why Brits have started doing Thanksgiving as well. It's as if they want to be Yanks...! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

It's a US thing. It's the end of the month before Christmas and so people get paid. Their bank account is no longer in the red but in the black - hence Black Friday. But totally just an excuse to palm off old stock that's not selling cos it's out of date and a new model's arrived. And is the price any better than the previous weeks? Robin

Why do we have it in the UK? Mainly because it is a marketing ploy to get foot fall into the shops a month before Christmas in the hope that we can be made to part with more of our hard earned on things that we wouldn't otherwise buy. BTW there are deals out there............ but also a lot of cons. And now I have been seeing all over the place "Black Friday Week" discounts so it looks like its going from a single day event to a whole bloody week of it! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

There really are some deals ... stuff cheaper than genuine RRP. My iPad has been "taken over" and I've been thinking of getting another. Not much of a discount at the moment but still better than paying full price. Advent of a newer model isn't imminent either.
