Pretty sure it's a main dealer affair. Looks like each sat nav unit has its own serial number and the map data has to be matched to it- so no free updates from piratebay or the like It's just not cricket!

For that year car you buy a memory stick from HERE formerly Navteq website. £169.00 they give you the activation code and instuctions etc. do it yourself takes around 3 hours to update the 2017 maps are now out. If you go on the L/R site it just directs you to the HERE site.
