United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bonatti Grey
P023D

Have been getting an intermittent problem where the TDV8 goes into limp mode and displays Engine Fault. Strangely enough almost always the same situation. Been somewhere on a short trip and on the way back, out of a car park get onto a main road after about 500 yards and as soon as I accelerate (not hard) the error occurs. Stop as soon as possible. switch off and back on and all seems to be OK:

I have had this fixed before and both times it was damage to one of the rubber manifold hoses at the top front of the engine. I also had errors on the turbos previously which could easily be fixed at Evans Garage in Crossways by freeing up the Turbo Actuators with a coat hanger.

This time however the garage where I took it say they can see no visible damage to any of the hoses. The error they read out says: "Saugrohr/Ladedruck Sensor A. Obere Signalamplitude zu groß". I am visiting Germany at the moment. This would translate as:

P023d manifold absolute pressure. Turbo charge boost sensor a correction
or google says
Suction pipe/Boost pressure Sensor A. Upper Signal Amplitude too high.

So I am stuck not knowing what to do. I have difficulty understanding how there can be a connection between the suction in the manifold tubes and the turbo pressure.

On this forum I have read that P023D can mean both problems as well.

Is there a way of testing for which error it is?

If the turbo actuators need freeing up again the guys here don't know how to do it. They are not Rover specialists at all. Does anybody have a good description of how to do this on a TDV8? Maybe some Photos?

Thanks all

I will answer my own question.

Ended up going to a Rover Main Dealer who re-did all the checks to find out what was wrong. Status at the moment is not that there are leaks in the hoses which one might suspect and which issue I had had once before.

The problem is a split in the valve cover which is part of the manifold / turbo pressure system.

The indie garage where I went first didn't know that the valve cover was part of the system and didn't check it.

An expensive problem because quite a lot of bits and pieces have to be removed just to get at the cover. but better than having to have the turbos replaced.
