Rear brakes back plate corroded.

Some help would be appreciated. Has anyone got any advise on how to replace the rear brakes back plates on a 2008 Sport. I decided to replace the rear disks and found the back plates badly corroded and with a slight tug the outer plate came away. Looks like I have to remove the hub but can this be done in situ without stripping the whole carrier. Appreciate any advise.

you need to remove the hub from the knuckle im afraid. Put a new bearing in as it will be trashed when you remove the hub. You need to remove the hub to get to the torx screws. Bodsys Brake Bible

Hello. Can you give me a brief description of the job, parts required and an idea of how long the job may take. I have a replacement back plate and pullers. I also have access to a press of some description.

Follow my brake bible to remove the brake pads/disks/shoes

You need to remove the hub nuckle bolts, you may want to change those as well whilst you've got it apart.
The driveshaft needs to come out
Need to take the epb cable off as well, it's made of plastic at the back and needs care removing as it gets gunked up.
Once it's all ft, you need to press the centre hub out, then remove the big circlip holding the bearing in place, then push the bearing out.

Undo the torx bolts and put the new backplate on. Replace hub knuckle bushes before you put the new backplate on
Then push the new bearing back in, put new circlip back in, then press the hub back in.
Fit back to car.
Job done. Bodsys Brake Bible

Thank you for your help. I guess you mean the top and bottom bushes and bolts. Would that all require a alignment check on completion?

If you mark the eccentric washers and where they align on the arms, and refit to that position, you shouldn't need alignment when you put it back together. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible
