yes they do, as I have one, I bought mine for around £25 from Halfords over 5 years ago, off course they are cheaper now, but this one generates enough watts to run a games console, were as some barely make enough power to run a shaver 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Correct shakeapaw, match the output watts to the device you wish to power. It's a good solution if you don't want to boil a standard kettle. My converter is 150 watt and works fine with a PS2.

Of course you should not be using a 12v - 240v inverter in a moving vehicle. It is a substantial safety issue if there is an accident as the car shell could get energised with 240v endangering occupants and/or rescuers. 07MY RRS TDV6

interesting point you make there, as my Halfords one has a picture of a girl playing on her laptop while in a moving car on the cover. hmmm 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

But in an accident that triggers the airbags the processor unlocks the doors then cuts off power at the battery by firing the pyrotechnic charge at the battery terminal, so probably not an issue with the LR safety systems. (later models anyway)

isnt that in itself dangerous?, if that happens at a low speed, you are then unable to move the car to a safer place? 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

It has to trigger the airbags first (therefore a significant impact) before the computer follows through with the crash sequence.

I have been in a crash in my Mercedes E320 which deployed the Airbags, as it was a side on shunt, I was able to drive the car and move it off the carriageway, thus preventing any more accidents as it was on a bend 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Never heard of this - my RRS has normal battery terminals - nothing mentioned in my workshop manual. 07MY RRS TDV6

Hi Gary,
Extract from the LR workshop manual below.
My BMW X5 has exactly the same system.
Maybe yours is earlier than when this was fitted or been removed as its obvious on the positive terminal?

"GENERAL
The battery is located between the bulkhead and the secondary bulkhead, in a protective box, on the passenger side. It sits in a tray and is secured with clamp plates and bolts.

The battery terminal posts allow for the battery cables to be connected with clamp type connections. The battery positive terminal uses a pyrotechnic attachment, which detaches the battery cable in the event of a crash of a severity to trigger the airbags. For additional information, refer to Air Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System)

All models are fitted with Delphi lead-calcium, maintenance free battery. Each battery is similar in construction with the battery rating varying according to application. There are two different battery sizes:"

Interesting -

Duelling workshop manuals at 10 paces Laughing

The Topix workshop manual for my vehicle indicates that even when there is a crash power to the starter is disabled but there is power to the rest of the car.

Section 414-01-1 Battery, Mounting and Cables Description

OVERVIEW
The battery terminal posts allow for the battery cables to be connected with clamp type connections.
http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/se...3962/OD...

Description
The battery is mounted in a protective box, located in the engine compartment, on the passenger side. It sits in a tray and is secured with clamp plates and bolts.

The battery positive terminal is fitted with a mega fuse, which is a 400 Amp device housed in a black fuse carrier, integral to the battery clamp. Power feed to the BJB is taken from a tap on the battery clamp before the mega fuse.

In the event of a crash the mega fuse is designed to blow, this isolates the power from the generator and starter motor, but allows power to be delivered, via the CJB, to the rest of the vehicle.

For my RRS power is still being supplied if there is an accident. Certainly in Aust, paramedics have received potentially lethal shocks from crashed vehicles that have inverters fitted and on.
