Getting Alternator off an TDV6 HSE with active suspension

Hi,

My alternator has developed a short and I'm struggling to remove it. The FAQ shows removal when there is no ACE pump in the way, but the pump seems to prevent one of the bolts being removed. Is the only answer to remove the pump first?

The short took my battery down to zero volts overnight too. It seems to be accepting a charge but peaking out at 12.9V.Should it be replaced as well?

Thanks, Mike.
