Black Smoke EGR advice

Bought a 2007 TDV8 the other day and I wasn't until I was driving behind it did I notice it was chuffing a bit of black smoke, pulled the top of the engine and one of the egr pipes at the top has been blowing and everything around it is black, it may be pulling air in or losing air which could be causing the black smoke.
so can I make blanking plates for the EGR's, or should I fix the leak and have them disabled?
Olly

The TDV8 can't be blanked yet as far as I know. There may be an EGR emulator available at some point but if you just disable/blank the EGR it will throw errors. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

"it may be pulling air in or losing air which could be causing the black smoke"... Yes, you are right about that. Just change the pipe and don't mess with EGR. RRS TDV8 HSE

The guy who usually maps my vehicles advised me to disable the egr as they are nothing but trouble?

Euro IV engines like the TDV8 monitor the EGR for activity. If you just disable it or blank it then it detects that and throws an engine fault. I think it might even go in to restricted performance mode but not sure. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
