Switched Live Under Steering Wheel?

Hi - I am looking to install a relay to control the factory fitted iPod kit which now has a fault whereby it is draining my battery overnight if left connected. The relay will switch the kit on when the ignition is switched on essentially.

My idea is to install a relay on the live supply to the iPod kit. The relay would then be switched by a switched live underneath the steering wheel somewhere. Or alternatively I could run something from behind the radio etc down to the steering wheel location.

Can anybody suggest a suitable switched live? I will be investigating with my multimeter but hoped somebody could give me a quick answer. It is a 2008 RRS HSE.

Thanks for the help.

Your nearest one is the cigar lighter socket, but the easiest one is on the CJB fuse 53 I think, it should be empty with no fuse in it. Or fuse 41 which is a battery live.

Thanks for the posts guys. Lighter socket maybe best, just a longer cable run.

Michael - the fault lies within the iPod kit itself, new kits are around £350 I believe, so I am willing to try a £1.50 relay first!

As an update, I picked up the lighter socket supply and ground, stuck a relay in-line on the iPod kit live (behind the radio) and hey-presto all is working OK!

Not a bad £1.50 spend! Thanks for the help.
