Restricted performance and whistling!

I'll get straight to the point. My 3.0 has gone into restricted performance and makes a gentle whistling sound when I lift off the throttle. Am I right in strongly suspecting one of the turbos is pooped, or is there another common explanation? It's only got 20,000 miles on the clock, 3.5 years old.

Booked into Hadley Green Barnet but they cannot even run a diagnostic check on it until Friday 4 July! Wife not happy that 15 July road trip to Italy is in jeopardy! I'll have to ring round some more dealers to see if I can get it in earlier than 4 July.

Tried Brookfields in Barnet, very nice guys, but the issue was not obvious and they recommended taking to a main stealer because in the circumstances LR may contribute to repairs... The diagnostics showed like 6+ error codes, including turbo issues, but not sure if those errors were thrown due to a less innocuous fault. I guess I am suspecting the worst! L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Some interesting info for those of us in London regards long lead times to get a diagnostic check (e.g. 1 hours labour):

    * North One Service Centre, Archway (£116) - 6 working days
    * Beadles, Sidcup - 7 working days (but fully booked for 2 weeks, implying delay in repairs)
    * Hadley Green, Barnet (£85) - 8 working days
    * Lookers, Park Royal - 15 working days

Beadles offered for me to drop it as a breakdown and they would look at it within 5 working days (i.e. potentially sooner than the quoted slot).

North One offered the same, and will attempt to have a swizz within 2 days. So since they are very close to where I live I am going to risk it with them and hope they have enough influence over LR HQ if it turns it to a b Censored tch of body-off a job and I want LR to contribute. Then again, it's probably just a split hose, right? RIGHT?! I'm keeping everything crossed. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

"One of the turbos"
Am I missing something? This a V6?
Sounds like a boost leak from hose, would suspect pipe off or split which will throw various fault codes which hopefully haven't been erased as dealers can pinpoint fault from list of errors 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Yes, it's a 3.0 TDV6. They have 2 turbos, apparently. The secondary one kicks in above 2,500 RPM to give the TDV6 its terrifying turn of speed (0-60 in a sixth of a minute on the flat!) L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Learn something every day..... Always thought V6 was single vari-vane turbo which adjusted its pitch for low-high rev range. My day is done, as my old man would have said, you need to learn one thing every day Bow down 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

2.7 is a single turbo in D3/RRS

3.0 is twin turbo, as said above

Thumbs Up

North One's verdict: Sticking turbo shut off valve, which needs replacing, £800 ish (including their diagnosis time).

Not happy but it's not worst case scenario. More than likely caused by how little I use the car, I'll need to take it out for a long thrashing when I get it back. Neutral L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Hi,
My SDV6 HSE Black LE let me down last week, 15 months, 14858 miles and I got "Restricted Performance" and no "Oooomph".

Nearly caused an issue when "not" pulling away at a set of lights, so pulled over and got LRA out, 10 mins of laptop work and it turned out to be a sticking turbo actuator solenoid. LRA removed a plate under the front and moved it with a big screwdriver and spray of WD-40 and off I went - like a rocket - hasn't been that quick for ages.

Put it into the Main Stealers for a "mod kit" to be fitted which cures the problem , only to be told theMmod is ALREADY fitted and WD-40 is "the fix"". Have PM's Pete @ Landrover asking "Where is Mod 2 as Mod 1 obviously doesn't fix it?" but no joy.

I didn't have a "whistle" - just no power - I have heard that either the turbo hoses come off (the clips are not too clever)or they split - that could cause the whistle but I thought you might like to have my 10p's worth.

So to close this out, North One replaced the turbo actuator:

*Turbo/Compressor shut off valvue*
Found 3 DTCs in engine module - All relating to pressures
Found turbo actuator seized - requires turbo actuator
Replaced turbo actuator
Part number: LR043939 VALVE-AIR SHUT-OFF & RECIRCULATION

Labour was just over 50% of the total cost.

Mine too now goes like a rocket, but at considerably more expense than a screwdriver and squidge of WD40! L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
