MY12 SDV6, MPG.

Hi All,

just wondering what you RRS's generally get on MPG. The trip computer is showing around 31 mpg but actual usage based on calculations with fuel put in and milage covered is , for me, close to 25.

I'm a little shocked as the last couple of calculations have been with a mixture of motorway and school runs etc.
Extra urban I'd suggest which is supposed to be around 32.

Driving style,
For sure I'm overtaking all milk floats and buses but the pizza delivery boys and kamikaze astra's/corsa's... I let them go bye.

Thanks

I'd went to v8 as I'd heard there was little real world difference. It's not as greedy as everyone made out tbh. I'm doing about 300 miles a week. Getting around 25 - 27.

Does driving these engines frugal lead to problems?

Computer average shows 27mpg normally mix of town and rural. Did 200 mile Sunday and showed 34mpg sitting cruise at 70mph mainly motorway for trip. Same trip last summer got 35mpg Smile

Reckon about 10% improvement solo on previous MY10 but not towing Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Mine is showing 29.1 mpg at the moment just doing A to B trips locally. On the motorway it is usually showing 34mpg.

Forgot to mention, mine is running on Shell Nitro+. Not convinced it makes any difference though. Its never had any other fuel in it since new and i'm now on 18000 miles.

Over a 1000 miles, basically all to and from work on back roads and bit of bypass. Average just over 26mpg.

^^^^ with apologises to all, mines mostly on Tesco's, well their scheme's giving me 20p/litre off at the moment.

I give it a tankful of Shell's Nitro every 5/6 tanks but I don't notice a difference.

I get about 20-22mpg from mine in all driving. Have seen 26mpg a couple of times on a long run at constant moderate speed. I am running AT tyres however. I also use BP Ultimate where possible but that only for the benefit of the internal rather than any claimed mileage improvements (which I've never seen anyway). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I always strictly put Shell Nitro+ diesel in mine too but never seen 34/35 mpg even on motorway. It's currently showing 28.2 mpg combined (mostly urban driving). If I reset it just before a decent motorway journey I see about 32-33 mpg max. I once manually calculated the actual consumption between tank fillups and when compared to computer I found it to be 8-9% optimistic.

Question: roughly after how many miles is the car expected to "loosen up" and be at its prime?

I noticed mine got better after its first service, at around 9000 miles. But it does feel even better the more miles i put on it. Its never thrashed when cold, and its always left to cool down after a motorway run. Mechanical sympathy. Thumbs Up

Forgot to say the 27mpg I posted above included some towing - without towing average is around 29mpg Thumbs Up

I use supermarket fuel so looking at others figures the Nitro makes no difference Confused

Just reached 8000 miles so hopefully loosened up now Bow down

Towing been showing 17-22mpg but planning to avoid this now by storing in Oxford area where we spend most of our time Rolling Eyes

Reversed 27ft caravan into a barn Sunday with 6" clearance each side - still not recovered and considering a mover on next one - although the faster/smoother/cheaper run home solo did help Twisted Evil Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Mine has done about 6,500 miles. It also got better after the recent first service and the figures I quoted are the improved figures. My previous 2.7 TDV6 was showing 27 mpg combined and 32 on motorways when I sold it so the newer engine and gear box doesn't seem to be hugely more efficient. Mind you I do drive the SDV6 differently to the old one Wink and have more toys in use especially over longer journeys so that's fair.
