United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Servicing at 69K

Hi Guys,

Wondered if you could help me out here, im looking for some guidance as to what kind of service to do on my RRS. It has 69K Miles and says its due. It is a 2.7 TDV6. It was first registered as a 56 plate car, and is 7.3 years old.

It has been serviced at the same place all its life, a company called Ongar Bridge 4WD in essex, and the service history is as follows:

Miles: 10631 Age: 1 Year Service Type: A
Miles: 23962 Age: 2.7 Years Service Type: B
Miles: 42131 Age: 5 Years Service Type: B
Miles: 52954 Age: 6.2 Years Service Type: B
***NOW IT IS***
Miles: 69000 Age: 7.3 Years

Ongar Bridge would like to do the 7 year 105,000 miles service, costing just under 1K, because it is a timing belt / cam belt change, and it is 7.3 years old.

I've rang around and this seems to range from about £800 to £1000.

My question to you guys is:
Do I need this service now? Can I do it in a years time? I currently drive about a thousand miles a month. Could I just get an Interim Service for now and get this one at around 80K miles?
When a cam belt breaks I know it would be very costly, typically how long do you expect them to last?
Does this seem like the right price for this type of service?
Is there any renowned service centres in the Bedfordshire areas that you guys would recommend?

Thanks for your comments in advance!

The cam belt is due now. Don't put it off - do a search of the forum and there are some examples of belts at 7 years old that were obviously on borrowed time.

The service history isn't great anyway - the RRS requires servicing at 15k miles OR 12 months which ever comes first so your 7 year old example should have 7 services in the book. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ongar Bridge are absolutely right mate as it's overdue a can belt. It would be a massive false economy to skip it and face a massive repair bill. It will also looked like you've scrimped on the servicing come re sale time. You could get an Indy to do it- would be less than a grand then
