I'd go along to a dealership along with the wife and test drive the models your are seriously intrested in. Thats the only way you and your other half will make you own minds up. Its easy for us to say get this one, not that one. Laughing At the end of the day, its your money, you could have many more thousands of ££££'s in your pocket if you bought something totally different to a land rover product, but that box will still be left unticked. Sad

I agree andi have looked at other makes (and still look) , audi q5 not enough prestige, q7 nice also has 7 seats but smaller on the inside than it looks, ml420 don't like the looks, x5 is a simple no, evoque too small for all of us. It needs to be a nice prestige 4x4. Discounted all estate cars as the wife is small she needs the high seating position, when she drives cars she has to have the seat that close its stupid.

I've driven them and to be fair they are all 4x4's with slow 0-60 (good for what they are) so I'm not expecting them to excite me. The full fat felt like its going to tip over but you get used to it and change the way you drive. They are all equally nice to drive, ok some will tow better than others generally the bigger engine the better but then with fuel never getting any cheaper it has to be considered.

I can't and don't expect you guys to pick the model I should buy but an opinion helps and you all you these models or have done so you are the best to ask really.

Then there is resale when I want to change it, the full fat is the longest car I've owned at 18 months and I only sold that as gearbox was going. Now no one like losing money especially a Yorkshire man!!

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Stornoway Grey

Was in a similar situation a few weeks ago Neutral . Went out with the intention of spending around £15k on a RRS (Previously had 2 d3s and 2 FFRRs). Made my mind up quite early that i wanted a RRS, partly because i hadn't had one and partly because i never used the extra seats in the d3s
However, after looking at several £15k RRS (05-06) and realising that for my budget i would be buying a 8+ year old, 100+k miles car. Also most of the ones i saw were shocking condition!!

I narrowed it down to a 2008 TDV8 HST for just under £25k and a 2010(59) 3.0tdv6 facelift HSE for £28k. In the end i decided on the 2008 HST purely for the TDV8 Thumbs Up

I also looked at Audi Q7s and cannot explain why but they just didn't do it for me Neutral despite probably being a more sensible choice

Why is the q7 a more sensible choice? More reliable? Better mpg? Not really looked into them much, sat in one then nearly hit my head on pillar getting out. Style wise with rs4 style wheels they do look nice, lack prestige of rr/rrs though.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

You keep using the word "prestige". In the Land Rover range really there are only 2 prestige vehicles - the Defender and the FFRR. The Defender has prestige because it has proven ability off road. The FFRR has prestige because it is also seen as good off road whilst being the vehicle of wealthy land owner types. It's seen as a proper luxury vehicle.

The RRS is not a prestige vehicle - it is generally seen as a bit "footballer"/"footballer's wife" or "chav" by most people who've never experienced one. That is almost the antonym of prestige.

Now, those in the know are aware that the RRS is a great drive (provided one isn't trying to press on too much; it's no sports car after all) and is very capable off road. It's not the most reliable vehicle in the world, nor is it very frugal. It's expensive to maintain, fuel, tax. It is a nice place to be in all conditions however. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

^^^ +1.
A Bentley Conti is seen as a "footballer's car" but I'm sure they're quite prestigious!!
