clear smoke coming from right front wheel? oil?

Guys car was running for a while and I notice clear smoke coming from above wheel on drivers side... I looked under bonet and pulled the oil dipstick out and there was so steam (clear) coming from it then I opened the oil cap and some steam coming from there also... its constant also... is this normal for a TDV8? 87k miles on clock..

Is it leaking anything? Have seen the injector leak off pipes fall out, and the diesel hits the hot exhaust underneath, causing smoke...

From the wheel it's very hard to see it.. Is it normal that if the car running and you pull the dipstick out for there to be smoke coming from there ? Should the oil be that hot?

It can be normal, but it can be an indicator of a head gasket/piston failure, but to be honest it's difficult to tell from what you describe.

Any other issues, any creaming at the oil filler? Mike

Just checked the oil level and its just above the min amount.. could that be the reason? the dipstick was strange as one side says its above min but the side with the dots show it just above min...

checked the oil cap and no white stuff etc...

When did you last fill it. Fill it up and make sure it's not using oil

Did the oil look clean? Was the coolant level ok?

Is the smoke puffing out? Mike

Thanks.

Yes coolant is fine... oil looked fine.. I didnt add oil to it as land rover serviced it 10k miles ago...i assumed the dash would tell you when to add?

Whats the best way to get a true reading? I dont want to over add oil...

If you have a dip stick then that's what you go off.

Is it puffing out or not. As everything sounds clean it probably isn't the head, it could be a worn piston...depends Mike

Engine should be warm when checking oil level. 10,000 miles without checking Question Monthly at least.

Check your oil when cold

Change it while hot

Whatever you do you must check it when the oil has settled, if you have just run the car oil will be still around the engine

Make sure the car is level Mike
