Temperature Fault ??

Hi All,

Over the last few days when driving the temperature gauge doesn’t reach its normal position, if I stop at lights etc the gauge begins to drop back towards cold, if left the needle almost drops back in the blue area.
Could this be a thermostat issue or sensor?? I will be calling the dealer tomorrow but though I would get a little more sense on here first, well hopefully!!

Thanks, Steve

Well dealer was helpful, after a two hour wait for a return call I had to call them. The advice given, call LR Assist.
I now have a 3 hour wait before anyone turns up; all I wanted to know was is this fault that needs attention.
A complete waste of a day and still no nearer getting an answer!

It does sound like a thermostat issue - sounds like it might be staying open no matter what the temperature of the circuit. This, of course, is a good thing as it prevents the engine overheating and causing damage e.g. head warping. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Quick update - Coolant system bled and topped up as there may have been air in the system. BUT car must now go to the dealer as mechanic from LR assist is not convinced the issue is resolved as when carrying out a pressure test the pressure was falling as the rpm was increased. When rpm returns to idle pressure returns to normal.

Anyone had anything similar?

I only have a problem that the needle stays in the middle, then when it warms up it goes back up to red, but is not overheating.
Then when turning of the car it falls down and stays in the middle.
My mechanic tells me its a faulty cluster, but I dont know ;/ 91 BMW 850CSI
