will I regret RRS

HI

I currently have a 2008 bmw x5 3.0sd with a lot of additional extras, but looking to swap for a 2009 RRS.

The question i have is will i regret it? ( i know it will be biased on this site Smile )

i have concerns with reliability, i have seen a lot of posts mentioning they spend a lot of time in garage.

Does any one know how the mpg compares? currently getting 23-24 on short trips.

i have never owned a range rover before, is there a list of standard features anywhere.

Thanks

Personally, if the budget allows, try and get a MY10 facelifted version.
Nicer environment inside and a few more standard toys to boot.

Reliability does seem to be hit and miss and bear in mind that people are more likely to post problems than trouble free motoring. It really does just depend on the luck of the draw. Do your research on hree and try to make sure the common faults don't exist or have been rectified.

Milage wise, I think you'll be on par with where you are currently.

**biased view** Whistle having considered the X5 before getting my RRS I think the RRS's are better cars, that said I've never actually owned an X5, so my reasoning doesn't really help. Laughing ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Hi Andy, welcome to the site. Obvious we are bias on here but we have good reason to be, they are great motors, yes some do have more than their fair share of problems it really is the luck of the draw really, economy wise, i always thought the X5 was slightly better on mpg that the sport but looking at your figures there isn't much in it to be honest, however that all depends on which model of sport you go for. If you are getting a 2009 model i'm guessing you are going for the facelift model, but if your not then i recommend you go for the facelift model if funds allow. Thumbs Up

I think it ends up being based on your own personality really!

My new sport has a host of niggly problems and has spent up to now 8 days in a dealer!, however the reality is (& this is more my nature than anything else) i love the car, i love driving it, if it's in the garage i get a comparative car to drive around in and i feel it's not actually going to break down on me & leave me stranded (which i don't feel it is) then to be honest i'm more than happy to own the car Very Happy

I do know where your coming from though, i've owned BMW's for the last 15 years and they are complete piece of mind car ownership, but hey ho, you have to at some point in time step outside the comfort zone a little! I just need to find one with the options i want although it looks like they are all pretty similar and not many additions to add, seems everything comes as standard.

re: how do you tell. A facelift interior will look like this.

Else the older cars will look like this Thumbs Up

I think 09/59 plates were facelifted, but you'll need to check Smile ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

The Sport is an unreliable beast. Indeed it often comes near/at the bottom of reliability surveys. Some people are lucky and have no problems whilst others have issue after issue.

They are a great place to be though. I came home from a shoot today, we'd got cold and wet in the morning but once in the vehicle quickly warmed up. The flooded roads on the way home proved no obstacle - the water was just over the side steps so an easy wade for a Sport. They do feel unstoppable at times. Unlike the X5, they are a proper off road vehicle and will go just about anywhere you want to go.

Mileage figures aren't great. Even those who claim the best figures seldom get above the high 20s mpg. Most will agree that 25mpg for daily use is about right. I see about 20-22mpg in daily use in my TDV8. S/C will see mid-high teens.

If you go for HSE spec then you'll get most of the toys. The TDV8 and S/C got a few more such as active cruise control but you buy one of those for the engine, not the toys.

If you want garaunteed reliability then look elsewhere. If you want something that feels special even when popping to the shops then the Sport takes some beating. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Fuel economy isn't brilliant, i average 25-27mpg when I'm not bothering to watch the mpg

However, i went up to Liverpool a couple of weeks back and i did consciously try to get the best mpg, i was amazed to average 33-35 Shocked Owner of MY13 RRS Red Edition, Santorini Black, Ebony with Lunar, Privacy Glass & Exterior Design Pack

Completely agree Cheney Thumbs Up . If I drive mine with no regard for economy, I get 25-28....but put a little bit of thought in and drive sympathetically towards the car and I can easily see 35 on a decent run Cool ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
