DRLs - daytime running lights

Hello all

I know this has been debated at length throughout the forum, but I've decided to go for some DRLs (the strip type) to install into the front of my HST bumper, in a similar position to the 2010+ AB bumper to keep it "factory" looking.

My only question is has anyone actually installed aftermarket DRLs and if so does anyone have any wiring instructions/help.

Must be a pretty simple install rather than bother with an auto electrician

Thanks

Paul

Pretty simple actually.

You will need a 5 blades relay.

Take ign switched power from an empty relay plug next to the battery(add an inline fuse) and connect it to the 30 blade on the relay.

Wire from the 87a blade to the DRL.

The other DRL wire goes to ground.

Take wire from the sidelight power to blade 85.

Wire blade 86 to ground.

This way, DRL come on with ignition and go off switching on the sidelights.

You could have them just dimming with the sidelights using the blade 87 too and a resistor. '08 RRS TDV8

Hi Hario69,

I have been also keeping an eye out for a "OEM" looking DRL and retro fitting to the exact same place as they should be, but, the OEM kit seems to have a plastic surround that the DRL's fit into, and then fit to the bumper lower in the side scoop ares's, i have studied the pics of the OEM kits...are you looking to fit the lights into a AB 2010 bumper?, or HSE spec 2010?, as they do fit in different places!.

What lights have you bought?, maybe a pic?.....let us know more...

I fitted a set into my 2011 Transit Sport, all tho they were round ones that replaced the front fog light units, there's a full kit you can buy from eBay job done, was easy to fit too, came on with ignition and off 60secs after.

As Flydive has said/posted up, thats the way to wire them up but to a non-tech that diagram can look scary stuff, but really is pretty simple to do and will work just how he says, there might be a "ready wired" kit if you search the 'Bay...
