Misfueling

Having chuckled at other peoples misfortune in the past, I have gone and stuck some petrol in in the RRS!!
In 25 years driving I've never come close to doing it!!, I had just finished work and had a million things on my mind!
Anyway, the Misfueling device went off, but not after shoving half a ltr in, I decided to fill it up to the brim with diesel and see how things went. I have read a lot of conflicting reports on the net, from a couple of litres won't matter, to needing a full rebuild!! I have been driving gingerly and will probably keep topping it up every 50 miles, unless anyone else has some definitive advice!
Thanks

Is the misfuelling device standard across the range?
My sister has a 59 plate HSE which was filled with unleaded and no device kicked in?

My wife filled her diesel golf with petrol at Tesco's last year, fortunately Tesco's offer a service where a company drains your tank on the forecourt for around £180.

1/2 a litre of petrol wont really make any difference to a full tank of diesel. You'll be fine. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Nik, if her 59 plate is an early facelifted one, then yes it should have it, but to be honest it feels more like that annoying way when the trigger splashes back all the time and cutting the flow, it doesn't actually divert the petrol won the overflow pipe!

Thanks bodsy, think I will stick a can of diesel flush through it as well, just to be safe!

Thanks

I would not ask your dealer, they see the £££££ signs and throw your remaining warranty out the window

Half litre would not make much difference when mixed with a full tank, but I would check with a independent to make sure

I think someone was recommended to add 2stroke oil (correct spec 2so) and keep it brimmed to dilute the petrol over on freel2

0.5L in an 80L tank? Can't see any problem with that at all. I'd be amazed if even LR said it needed anything doing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Since the first posts I have in fact spoken to the dealer, I was thinking they would want it in and change all of the ancillaries , but no, they said it will not be a problem, if I had half filled it that would be another story! He did back up what I thought of doing and put in an £18 can of diesel flush in it when it gets down to half full. funily enough I was talking to a lorry driver, who said he puts a bit of petrol in in extreme cold weather to stop it freezing
Cheers all

Sorry to hear that this has happened. I have just paid for mine to be repaired after my wife put petrol in it and drove it until it stopped. In order to keep the warranty in place it cost me £4125 at the dealer (including a tank of fuel)
Having said that your not in the same position as you have put a very small amount in, however it may be worth asking (do you have a local independent in your area ?) as any future warranty claims will be rejected if any trace of petrol is found.

Blinking Heck!! Shocked £4 grand!! When I spoke to the service manager he laughed and said as long as it was only 60p it would be fine, I have actually kept topping it up with diesel each day to dilute it, not sure if it mixes or floats on top! Seems to be running smooth enough
Cheers
