Wondering if any one could help!!!!!!

I own a 2007 RRS HSE, whilst driving through Spain a few days ago i heard a rasping type sound coming from underneath
the car, pulled over and noticed oil covered the underneath of the car.

Took it to the nearest garage to be informed the oil was transmission fluid a seal had gone and there was no transmission fluid left it had run dry and caused 3 to 4K of damage to the transmission

my question is should the engine management have warned me of the problem and the lack of transmission fluid?

Has any other member experienced the same or know of any others that have?

having to get the car transported back from Madrid to the UK to a LR dealer so the bills are racking up!!!

Would appreciate any feed back/advice
