Sweep stake on my DIY ability... DONE!

So, I got my new side steps delivered today and Im going to have a crack at fitting them tomorrow... I'm not particularly gifted when it comes to practical things so I've watched a few YouTube videos and they reckon about 1 hour per side.

I think that's ambitious when taking into account my DIY skills. It took me over about an hour to assemble a £99 BBQ at the weekend.

With this is mind how long do you think it will end up taking me and I'll update with a few pics tomorrow I hope!);

A) less than 2 hours
B) 2-3 hours
C) 3-4 hours
D) 4+ hours
E) I give up and call a mate over to help...

I hope B but would bet on D... Rolling Eyes

Also, any advice or is it actually an "easy" job? 2007 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

All done!

So I started about 11:00 and finished at 2:20 so all in about 3 hours 20 mins. Bean guessed correctly, bag of m&ms in the post! Very Happy

Should have been a lot quicker but..

1. Getting the screws out that hold the sills in by the rear tyre are a joke. I didn't have a screwdriver or ratchet small enough to fit in the gap. Spend about 25 mins with some moles grips and a screw head but couldn't get it to budge. Eventually gave up and ended up jacking it up and taking the rear wheel off. Once it was off, it was dead easy.

2. Put the brackets on, then the new precut sills then tried to get the step on... But it just wouldn't fit. There is some play in the brackets (horizontal & vertical) but once the sills are back on you obviously can't make any adjustments. Ended up taking the sills back off again (breaking a load of clips in the process) and the readjusted the brackets WITH the step on. This would be the one bit of advice I would pass on. Before you tighten up the brackets put the step in place (with no sills on) and the tighten the brackets while the step is on. You are then guaranteed a nice fit

So the first step took about 2 hrs 45 mins and the second one took about 30 minutes!

Will post some before and after pics shortly.

Didn't enjoy it one bit but probably saved £100 by doing it myself so I've bought some new mats to reward my hard work Mr. Green 2007 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Well done Dave Smile

Fancy doing this myself too. Where did you buy the steps, and did they come with the pre cut sill trims ? Do you mind saying how much they cost ?

Thanks

Got them from http://www.lrparts.net/scp/RANGE_ROVER_SPO...SPORT.html

They were £180 plus VAT and did come with the sills. I'm glad they did as it would have been a nightmare to cut the sills myself. 2007 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
