Fitting genuine LR front mudflaps

I have recently fitted a pair of front mudflaps. In order to get them to fit and as directed by the instructions, I had to remove the foot long rubber strip from the lip of the wheel arch.
Iam tempted to cut a small piece off the strip and push it back onto the edge of the arch and above the mudflap.

Has everyone else done this or have they just left the strip off, or anyone who had them fitted from new, is the strip missing?

new trim is cheap from dealers, plenty of fl2 owners have bought new or replaced under warranty.

I cut the curly bits off mine during mudflap fitting, made them as good as new.

one rear mudflap fell off recently, at high speed too. make sure the bottom screw has a good bite, I added a few extras as well
