Strange Steering Feel

I have started to get what could only be explained as a loose feeling from my steering wheel / column, the feeling is like a slight sideways movement from the steering column as if there is play, very slight but only really noticeable when turning and applying power, has anybody had any similar experience.

Thanks

We have just had a lot of work completed on the steering and it is now perfect.

What you are saying was the second problem in the list we were experiencing.

1) steering column moving and clicking at slow speeds - this was fixed under a TB and replaced parts in the lower steering gear
2) steering wheel shimmy at around 50 mph, the wheel felt loose as you describe - fixed under TB176, I recall this changed the actual steering rack
3) steering grating noise at 90deg position - this was fixed by adjusting the steering clock spring.

All this was completed by LR Thames Ditton, superb service department and all works done under warranty.

Good luck

Hello

Yes these are both listed in the service paperwork.

We had these and also 4 wheels were changed as they buckled from when we purchased the vehicle in mar 10.

The combined effect of all these symptoms together produced a really bad driving feel, now they have been addressed and the balancing and steering wheel alignment done it is all very smooth and great to drive.

Australia

Looks like our steering rack has disintegrated as well.

Steering gets incredibly heavy when turning. Worse under load. It's as if the power steering dies, but PS checks out OK.

Am hoping it can be replaced under the extended warranty.

Undriveable in its current condition.

What is it with these vehicles?

I feel like I have had mine constantly in for repairs since purchased. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6
