Collection of Brand New RRS

First of all, my apologies for creating this topic, I do recall that I came across a similar one at some point few months ago. But I cannot find it anymore.
I was wondering if anybody knows what needs to be checked when collecting a new RRS. I think there was a whole list of things to go through. Could someone help me please, your time and effort would be very much appreciated.

Just a couple of things

1) spend some time checking the car spec and make sure all options are included - ask the dealer to point out every option is there and works.

2) Have a good look at the bodywork and make sure the paintwork is not blemished - it seems LR have improved this a lot over the last few years, but its still worth it

The key imho is to take your time - its better to have driven away knowing a few things have already been noted and scheduled to be corrected than to be dissappointed on day 2

Enjoy

When I picked mine up - the sales guy explained how everything worked. On the outside they had put a finish on the paint it that disguised two paint chips on the driver door, just below the wing mirror!

IMO check the body work really well for any marks / chips.

Also, he did not explain the remote control for the DVDs (which still doesn't work). BUT I wa svery happy as it is a RRS! CURRENT: 3.0TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey, Privacy Glass, Rear DVDs, Extended Leather

Very well. Thank you very much for all your replies, they are very much appreciated. I've decided to get AA to check it properly, but the problem is that my vehicle has not been registered yet. So AA could not help me just yet. Hopefully the dealer will register it by Monday so I can arrange something by Wednesday (that is when I am collecting the almighty one).

However, one more question.
How does it work from a legal point of view: I am going to pay cash all sum right away, once I do that, does that mean I have accepted the car? If so, then getting AA to check it is pointless...

I know the dealers ask for money prior 2 days of collection. But is it legally binding? Or is it a just a trick to get the money which would imply that the car has been accepted.

It would be very convenient to first get AA to check the car, then if all is well, pay the money and sign the paperwork.

And finally, assuming I pay the money first, then get AA. In case AA finds something wrong, can I still reject the car and come back for collection once defects have been fixed?

Regards, Vadim A.

dont worry - you never buy a car 'as seen' - its just in case there are some major problems then don't take it. I.e. if you ordered a sun roof and there is no sunroof, then although its tough, walk away until they sort it

the other reason to check it over is to ensure your as happy as you can be before leaving - its annoying to wash your car on day 2 and find a scratch - tough to say it wasn't you.

Otherwise any technical probs must be fixed by the dealer

Collecting a new car is a 'heart' moment, but make sure you spend 10-20mins with your 'head' to make sure the dealer has kept their side of the deal

Do you really feel it is necessary to get the AA to check a brand new car from a main dealer? In my experience even if you found a problem straight after pickup the dealer will do everything they can to resolve it. Just look over the car very carefully as its mainly cosmetic marks you are looking for that could have happened in transport but also that the paint finish is perfect on all panels and all options are present. Do take a copy of your order sheet with you and check off everything that is supposed tp be on the car. Mine had a few options missing or wrong when I went to pick it up, it also had a flaw in the glass of offside rear window which was only noticable under certain lighting conditions. for me that meant I had to wait in Scotland for an extra week while it got sorted.
List of things wrong on mine:
wrong door cards fitted
No iPod dock fitted
Roof Rails+ roof bars not fitted
wrong boot liner ( one supplied didn't fit with the dog guard)
flaw in the glass of offside rear door Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Picked up a new car for the Wife a few years ago and the dealer had replaced a front tyre and put a different type on it - they must have got a puncture pre pick up and replaced the whole wheel with another new car Shocked Evil or Very Mad

I didnt notice this for a few weeks and Dealer denied all knowledge - I wasnt very happy

always do the door ding check, get down on your knees and look along the sides of the car, i heard somewhere that the damage to all new cars in storage / delivery is about 15/20%!!!!, saying that when i picked mine up, i was kept waiting for over an hour so was then in a rush to pick up my kids from school, i was happy with the metalwork but totally missed a huge chip out of the bumper until i got home, a quick email sorted that out and it was booked in for what i think was a new bumper as there was no overspray at all and a scratch on the black plastic also disapeared.

my dad has just treated himself to just about his first new car ,a volvo c30 for his retirement, it has a dent in the roof where someone has pushed in the shark fin arial, the dealer is not so great at handling this one, basically saying the roof would need resprayed - not something you want to do on a new car!!

mechanical faults wont rear their head till you get some miles on it, and then it is under warrenty anyway, so dont worry too much about that! MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

I actually feel embarased reading. I am shocked that so many people have had issues with dealers (especially on new cars). It all depends on the level of care and QC by the dealer. You shouldn't be picking up vehicles with missing options or incorrectly fitted item, it's a real shame. Big Cry

With regard to any damage, the dealers will have had the vehicle thoroughly valated, which serves as a final QC, to ensure that the vehicle is perfect.

I'd like to think that we are different to most dealers, however it is sad that previous issues have led to someone deciding to have an AA inspection on a brand new vehicle Shocked . With regard to the inspection; if you do go ahead with it then get the reg number from the dealer and have the inspection carried out before the vehicle is paid for or registered. If anything is found then at least the dealer will have not registered it and you will not have paid for it. Whistle

Good luck with the collection and let us know how you get on.

James Thumbs Up

James - clearly you have been spoilt due to working at LPR Laughing

over on the AUDI Q5 forums, although the volumes its amazing to hear almost a handful of cars been delivered with the incorrect spec and the dealers not spotting it - you get the feeling they have taken the car from stock rather than having the factory order and are then trying to pull one over the customer, however either way its amazing how many times this happens

Oh this is great, so many replies... Very Happy

Question to James though: Will a dealer allow AA to inspect an unpaid car?

Thanks. Vadim A.
