hello i have an appointment at the dealer friday for service i have a 2009 HSE they are saying they can give me a software upgrade for my navi? is this possible and if so has anyone done it or know what the differences are

Yes but they will probably want money for doing it! Just puts you to the latest map update and software level.
If you have the HDD nav then you may be able to upgrade to 2010MY software, but I don't know if 2009 had HDD nav (hard disk drive) or DvD mapping. The 2010 Nav is very clever - I have been told that it can search phone numbers out of the phone book and route you to the address instead of using the postcode and it can route you to contacts in your mobile phone if you have their address as well as their phone number in your mobile 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
