United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
help , engine system fault !! wont go away now

the message engine system fault with reduction in power appeared a week ago on my way to the airport , not having much time to stop to investigate i carried on, switching the car off and on whilst driving as i was in a rush to catch my plane ( i know not very safe ! but i had to catch that plane )
upon restarting the car would regain full power for apporx 5-6 minutes then would reduce power again with the same message appearing
i just managed to get to the airport in time and parked the car at the airport parking for 4 days .
when i got back the problem was still there , but one difference : it would not go away when switching the car on and off and the message
system fault
special programs not available
started appearing , i had to drive back home with the limp mode on all the time , needless to say it is very frustrating on a 2007 , 17,000 miles car .
has anyone experienced anything like this before .
the car is a rrs tdv8
thanks

Fairly common. To reset you do a soft reset which involves using the key to lock/unlock/lock/unlock - this resets the system. Yours however has a problem and the best thing to do is when the fault next occurs get LR assist out straight away - do not reset the car, get them to transport to your LR dealer who will then diagnose the proble. Betting is it will be a faulty ECU, clogged up EGR valve or clogged up filter. Do a search as this is talked about in plenty of threads. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Nice Thumbs Up

Out of interest, what did you get as a courtesy car and did you have to pay for it (aside from insurance)? Confused

My technical background on the matter is far below the "basic" level, so my question is:
how many EGRs are there in the car?
2 in the V8 and one in the V6 ?

Embarassed

2 valves its a tdv8 , they in betweeen the 2 cylinder heads , i had a look at the computer when it was tested one was stuck at 4.71 % open and the other stuck at 17% open , they would not move either way no matter what position the accelerator pedal was on , they said it was a common problem and lr had plenty of replacement valves in stock !
the free courtesy car was supposed to be a rrs tdv8 , but it was already out , so lr paid for a hired out one from avis it was citroen c5 , no charge whatsoever( apart from fuel ) , until my car gets fixed

I have recently had both EGR valves replaced following all sorts of perfomance problems and alarms.....

....yesterday it rolled to a complete halt on the M40 with a dead engine.

No alarms, no warning lights, other electrical systems working ok. The message centre reported "Special Programs Turned Off" - which is the message you get when you turn the terrain control to the off position.

Performed the lock/unlock/restart ok and off we wnet. Only to fail again about 40 minutes later in an identical fashion.

Ho hum - back to the dealers. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit
