FWIW, the light sensor for the touchscreen is inside the instrument cluster, next to the flashing alarm LED. So, it all depends on how much ambient light hits that sensor inside the cluster, day or night. I have the factory tinted windows on the rear and don't have any problems - although at dusk the monitor can indeed seem a bit "confused" as to which brightness level to go sometimes (as the sensor reacts to the changing light level on the cluster while I drive), but it only lasts a while and it doesn't bother me. It could be a bad or partially dislocated sensor on yours. Try covering the sensor with your finger when it's bright outside. After a second or two the display should go dim - and stay dim. If the display flickers between high and low light or doesn't dim at all, you have a problem.
