Handbrake Fault

Sorry this was my original message which for some reason was not posted.

Hello Martin,I my name is Neil and have just registered for your site, keep
up the good work!! I own a '55 RRS. Iwas driving along to the shops on
23/12/08 and the handbrake suddenly came on with no warning at all on the
message centre, the only way I could get it off was by reversing slowly.I
managed to drive it very slowly to my nearest dealership 2 miles away,on
arriving the rear offside disc was very hot!!not surprisingly. The dealership
checked it out and said I needed new discs, pads drums, shoes, sensors etc. not
bad for a car with only 23500 miles on the clock, the cost was £500.I
naturally complained as the car car had been in for its MOT the week before
and passed.I asked the question, what if I had been travelling down the
motorway at 70mph and this had happened? The response that I got was that
the last time this happened to them was that the car had turned over and was
written off.I then contacted Land Rover told them the story, they showed no
interest at all and suggest I get in touch with SMMT.
I would be interested to hear if any of your members have had a similar
problem with their cars and what would be my best way forward now.
Needless to say driving the car now is not much of a pleasure as I am always
wondering if this might happen again

That's not good. I hadn't heard of this on this site but our sister site disco3.co.uk have many posts relating to faulty handbrakes, it might be worth looking over there as the RRS and D3 are very similar and share many parts. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.
