The pilot is definate hero and deserves a medal for his actions. But they probably don't have any left after wasting two on Tony Blair the other day. Confused Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

As I said on the other forum:

The pilots did a great job Thumbs Up
Also a good dose of luck which is always important.

Big advantage of landing on the Hudson is that the water is calm, lot more difficult would have been to land in the see with waves, with more chances for a break up an a quicker sinking of the aircraft.
If no break up occurs aeroplane should float for few minutes, time for evacuate the passengers and crew. Regardless you are going to experience a massive decelaration.

Pilots heros, well yes, but do not forget that they were sitting on the aircraft too, in their interest to do a good job Wink

Yes, he did a brilliant job, not that he should have done anything else, basically the main thing was that when he lost his engines he was offered the possibility to proceed to Teterboro, quick calculation told him that from that altitude he would not have made it, from that point the only possibility was the Hudson, not much obstacle free land around there. After that was just to control the aircraft to a landing, a wet one, doing the best he could. If he ha to land in rough sea the outcome would probably been a lot different. Yes a good load of luck too.

Yes, just doing his job, using great skills: bring safely back your passengers, that's the same thing my passengers expect from me(well they usually expect me to take them to destination too. Wink )

But as I said I would not call that being an hero, did what he had to do, in his own interest too as he was sitting in the aircraft too, he sure had no other options '08 RRS TDV8
