I've a 2008 tdvd and the fuel cap won't open, it just continues to turn round. Any one had similar prob's,- is there an easy fix?

I'm having some paint done on the bodywork and wish to colour code the mirrors whilst the paint is 'in the gun' so to speak,, can someone tell me how to remove the backs of the mirrors as unlike the 2 ...
