Insurance on the new RR Sport

I have a P440 on order but am hearing a lot of stories about insurance getting to crazy prices due to these being stolen.
Is that right?

Search the forum with the words insurance and you will find multiple recent threads on the subject..

I would suggest getting an insurance quote long before delivery and look at the potential of cancelling your order. Dealers are currently offering low interest and £10,000 towards a new purchase it’s got so bad.. so you could be quids in..
The Range Rover market is currently in freefall so I would definitely contemplate your next move..

In the meantime here is one thread..

Thanks for the info. Very interesting and worrying plus my dealer has. It guaranteed or fixed my price so it’s all looking worse.
Have any of you experience in cancelling orders? Is it easy ? Did you get any deposit back ?

What a mad situation. My price has gone up since my original order, I am past my estimated date with no view of a delivery and now it’s hard to get insured.
LR are in a mess

Hi imf73,

Insurance is (as usual) a minefield.

Depending in age, history, vehicle and (seemingly most important) location.

I’m over 60, advanced driver for 31 yrs, full NCB, retired, five other vehicles in the family and living in the rural southwest.

I’ve just used a comparison site, took the best deal (NOT the cheapest) and paid just shy of £850 for a brand new D300 AB, my L494 AB cost me £511 back in March - the insurer of that offered cover on the new one for……..£4350!! - hence my web trawl.

LR are telling me its only the older Sports and Range Rovers that are getting stolen and thives cant and arent stealing the newer model.
I dont buy that but has anyone got any info or examples to back that up? Are the newer ones being stolen?

Ireland 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I'm in Northern Ireland so maybe not quite as fertile ground for the thieves to steal and resell as stolen or for harvesting parts

My Car is a 2016 RRS SDV6 HSE. What I find odd, is that when I'm fully comprehensive, its £900 insurance but 3rd party only is £600 - so to insure if for fire, theft or general damage is £300, or 1/3 of overall comprehensive premium

That just doesn't make sense, when insurance companies are saying Land Rovers are expensive to insure because of theft.

I've another policy with a Nissan Leaf which I just started, so zero no claims bonus versus full NCD used on the RRS, fully comprehensive on the leaf is £350 yet thats still much cheaper than the Range Rover 3rd party only. By this logic, they are telling me I'm more likely to have a crash in the Range Rover? Surely once you are 3rd party only (no fire or theft) then the car you are driving becomes less of a factor, as you are insuring the cost of repairing the car you crashed into?

Its £500 to insure an Audi Q7 of similar value and performance, and thats fully comprehensive. I could potentially be carrying 7 passengers in that car too, so why is it £900 for RRS insurance and even more bizzare, why is RRS insurance 3rd party only more expensive than an Audi Q7 fully comp?

It just doesn't make any sense.

Older RRs

Anyone renewed recently on an early RRS ? My 4.2SC is up in February, so would be interested in seeing what’s happening to premiums.

I suppose you could do the searching now and adjust the renewal dates to give you a steer on what the market wants now. Mines not until May but have thought about that very thing before I spend preventative maintenance cash on the car. Might do it this week end actually...... 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Re: Insurance on the new RR Sport

I've been in the market for quite a while now.

I live in a faily "safe area" with regards to crime.... when I first started looking (which was before insurance went mental) - a £35k RRS which was £1200 for me to insure at my address, was over £7000 in Kensington, I checked for a laugh.

Since then, the insruance quotes have ascended and the 2nd hand values have dropped. However, I tend to keep cars for a long time so I'm trying to work this to my advantage - and get the most car for the least amount of money.

I'd say until the insurance situation sorts itself out, expect to take a bath in depreciation.
