Clonking from front nearside wheel

Good Morning folks,

Well, driving down to the office this morning, 150 miles, about 5 miles to go and I noticed the RRS felt a bit rough on the road. First I though perhaps I had a deflated tyre, but noticed when going around a roundabout, it making a clonking noise and sounds like its from teh front nearside wheel.

I've checked the tyre and it looks ok.

I've had a quick search and found that it could possibly be the driveshaft/halfshaft from the diff to the hub.

Is there anyway I can check this at all ?

Many thanks

Right, update time and a little red faced, though I must say it was 05:50 when I pulled up to the car park.

I planned to have a look at the RRS later this morning but one of the managers came in and said 'Do you know your passenger side rear tyre is flat'

D'oh !

So, just arranged for new tyres to be fitted tomorrow and just waiting for the AA to come and change it out for the spare.

Am I right in thinking that the spare can only be used upto 50mph ?

Many thanks

If it's a space saver then it's limited to 50mph, yes. If it's a full size spare then it's the same as the normal tyres. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks RRSTDV8, yes its a 255 on a 19 inch rim, so 50mph until tomorrows tyre fitting.

Many thanks

255/50 on an 8x19 or 9x19 inch rim is full size so it's not a 50mph tyre. The 50mph tyres are something like 175/80 on a 5.5x19 rim. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's strange because there's a 50mpg warning label on the wheel, hmmmm.

Many thanks

It is strange. I had similar on my spare back in the day. Full size 19in rim with full size tyre. My tyre supplier explained that the speed limit is a requirement of the small section tyre and if you're running a normal tyre on a suitable rim.then the speed limit doesn't apply. Could have been done where the car was supplied with 20in rims but a 19in spare in order to reduce the risks associated with slightly different tyres.

I just bought an extra full size 19 alloy to match my road wheels so the issue hasn't existed for years. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yes, my wheels are 20 inch.

Would I be able to fit a full size spare on the carrier.

I'm changing the tyres from 275/40 20 to 275/45 20 for a bit of comfort.

Many thanks

Yes, I have a 275/45 x 21" fitted so no problem.

Cheers
