Hopefully they will sort it out for you, just hope it doesn't take too long.

They did say that if the problem turns out to be the instrument cluster, it likely won't be repaired this side of the new year.. but of course it could be many other things! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

Car is now back from Avenger 4x4 in Peterborough - fixed for the princely sum of £536.

On inspection they found the tank full of what (in their opinion) is about a 50/50 mix of petrol and diesel - which is weird, because the last thing I did before it stopped (literally at the pump) was fill the tank from empty (fuel light on) with diesel.

The lift pump (in tank pump) had died, so it was treated to a new one of those and fresh diesel. Still didn't start.
They found that some connections on the underside of the fuse box (in the battery box) were corroded - cleaned and.. fired up.

Still not entirely sure I trust that the weird CANbus fault hasn't just fixed itself only to reappear at some inopportune time in the future, but we'll see. It'll take a while for the confidence in it to come back, I think; the only question is whether or not I end up selling it because I don't trust it, or keep it longer term.

Still, at least it works again. For now. It's a JLR product so I'm sure it won't be long until it breaks again (so every garage I go to tells me, anyway, including Avenger!). 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S
