Non starter☹️

So it’s been cold for the Southwest today when I got in the car at 11am to go and do some shopping before I start work tonight the outside temperature was 1 😳 key in glow light out turned over no start and HDC control system unavailable message on the dash, tried again same result.

Put my code reader on and nothing recorded in engine control or transfer box control or anywhere else, tried a third time.....nothing, so bonnet open and checked battery voltage @ 12.8 had a good look round and tried a fourth time and bingo she stated😀

So I’m thinking it may be combination of low battery ( only been doing short trips this week) and my glow plugs may be on the way out.

Do glow plug faults not show up as a code? Anyway battery on charge tonight and it’s getting warmer from tomorrow 👍 Steve

Yes I’ve read all that Andy, as the weather got colder she was on occasion sluggish and lumpy from cold so I had done some research on the plugs, easy job “if” they come out nightmare if they don’t 😳 Steve

12.8V isn't a low battery. That's a fully charged battery.

Glow plugs are in need of replacement. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

HDC fail is a sign of low battery

It may be but 12.8V is fully charged, especially if it's after a failed try to start. A duff cell could show 12.8V until it was placed under load and then it would drop out and show 10-11V. So that suggests the battery is ok and fully charged. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Well I’ve given the battery a bit of a charge this afternoon and the air temperature was 1.5 when I came to work and she’s fired up okay, fingers crossed she’ll start in morning 🤞

I’ll add glow plugs to list of jobs to do 👍 Steve

Batteries only a year old, I’ll do a cranking voltage test tomorrow when I get up. I replaced it when we got her because I was getting lots of lights after starting, when I checked the cranking voltage it was 9volts new battery was as you say 10/11volts. Steve
