Even though you haven’t done much mileage I would recommend still changing the oil at least every 12 months or less,I get mine serviced at LR dealership every 12 month to keep up with the SH & even though I only do about 6k a year I always change the oil 6 months after service especially with the oil dilution on the SDV6 engines. Definitely change it. Service intervals are based on mileage or time, whichever comes first. Kev

It can’t deteriorate that much with age given some of the service intervals on newer cars these days. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB Evoque MY17 TD4 AB |

if you do the services yourself then it really is not worth thinking about running more than 1 year

I also do low annual mileages and have always serviced my cars annually, the RRS is my first diesel and was going to do the same but are you saying 6 monthly oil changes? Steve

i'm not sure why the OP is asking the question. For the cost of a couple of takeaway curries, it's a no-brainer to have the oil changed once a year even in low mile usage. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I make my own curries and pay for an oil change. But maybe I'm just weird... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I also don't think a year or two would make much odds to deterioration in ideal conditions, but reality is most vehicles are not in ideal conditions. I guess if an owner was to only do a few long runs a year where the engine is up to temperature for some time, then store the vehicle in a climate controlled atmosphere then the oil will last just fine, but the likelyhood is a low mileage vehicle has had many cold engine starts (dirtiest time for oil) and rarely up to temperature for long periods (to get rid of absorbed moisture) so it'd probably be best to change the oil. Or have the oil analysed but this will be a chunk of the cost of an oil change anyway. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine 14MY Range Rover Evoque Dynamic SD4 Black Pack - wife's 99MY Defender 90 TD5, Soft Top Conversion - my toy, and bairns favourite |
