IID Tool Owners?

Is there a map or thread somewhere that shows members locations, be it county or town, that possess the IID tool and the ability to use it fairly confidently?

I am weighing up whether it is better for me to buy one myself or just pay a member local to me to make a couple of changes to my car? I am not after anything groundbreaking but suggested on my other thread about updating firmware and removing shadows from the TFT display on the dash.

Might be useful to know where people are located and those that are happy to offer an but of time in exchange for money/beer tokens.

Si

im sure they are registered to the vin of each vehicle,so you'll probably have to get one yourself. Andy.

Hi Si, the tools are locked to specific VIN numbers. You can add additional VINs to the tools at a cost of £60.

There isn't a map unfortunately, but asking on here and also on disco3.co.uk is the best approach. I'd be happy to add you on mine but I'm probably a little too far out of your way.

As you will read on the forum, these tools are invaluable and a worthwhile investment if you want to diagnose and fix issues yourself. Kev

Ah ok that’s good to know, I only asked that as I know there was a similar tool for VAG cars and members of another forum offered to make changes to coding etc.

Cool ok well that’s a fairly straightforward decision then - seems a good idea to keep on top of things and in touch with what the car is doing. Got a PM out with a member who may have one, will also have a look on Disco site Thumbs Up

Si

As mentioned above, if you search on the Disco4 side of this forum, there are traders that will be happy to do the job for you.
This guy -Bodsy- is a known helpful chap.

Ah, I assume you are referring to VCDS? I spent many hours playing with it and fitting many optional extras to my previous VW CC.

The IIDtool gives you access to similar functionality although I wouldn't say it's quite as 'in depth' as VCDS. Kev

VCDS is much better for the money as it’s near as dam it dealer spec for very little money and is not vin locked liked the IID tool! VCDS gives you access to many tweaks on the whole VW/ Audi back catalogue. I used mine many times on my VW Touareg and Skoda Fabia.
As stated the IID tool is fantastic. Unfortunately I sold mine when I got rid of my last FFRR and haven’t got round to buying one for the RRS yet. Current: 2010 RRS 3.6 TDV8 HSE

I have to say I can’t quite believe the price of them compared to the VAG tools but that’s probably just manufacture adjustment on my part.

Yes, they are expensive but they keep their value well. It's worth considering this when purchasing. Kev

I bought one on the recommendation of DrRob when I met him. It’s been invaluable and as Kev says prices second hand are robust. Don’t forget to look on the sister websites at their for sale stuff Thumbs Up 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
